Rice Socks

Rice socks or other compresses that can be reheated are wonderful to use during labor to help with pain control.

Fill a new mens tube sock 3/4 full with uncooked white rice.  Tie a ribbon or string tightly around the top, or sew closed.  Heat the sock in the microwave 1-2 minutes.  Shake the rice around to make sure the heat is evenly distributed.  Place on the body where relief is desired.

Dried lavender or a few drops of lavender oil added to the rice will release a calming fragrance when the sock is heated.

Flax seed can be used instead of rice.

The sock can also be chilled in the freezer to make a cold pack.
